Baldur's Gate 3 players are breaking the RPG's D&D-fueled initiative order thanks to a German law that makes orphaned children "the strongest summons in the game"

A good two years have passed now since Larian Studios first released Baldur's Gate 3 into the wild, and fans of the Dungeons & Dragons-inspired RPG haven't stopped finding new ways to spice it up since – including, erm, child labor.

Yes, you read that correctly. As a YouTuber and Baldur's Gate 3 expert (I feel like that's a fair read, judging by her two years' worth of chaotically wonderful videos), Morgana Evelyn highlights in a new short, "Child labor is unbeatable." How, you might ask? Put simply, children don't subscribe to the game's turn-based system in combat, and they can attack infinitely without being killed or targeted by enemies you're currently engaging with. Here's how it works.

If you're level seven, make sure you have two spells on any character – albeit not on yourself (the party leader): Dominate Beast and Polymorph. Then, find your poor, unsuspecting child NPC. Morgana goes with Mol… great choice, if you ask me. Once you've got your first orphan ready, cast Polymorph on them, followed by Dominate. Go to your camp afterward and toggle turn-based mode on if you need more time.

You'll need to dismiss your companion next, wait for your concentration on the Polymorph and Dominate Beast spells to expire, and re-recruit them before leaving your camp. Then, save your game and load back in. Morgana offers some handy tips here, too, as someone who has "had a lot of practice with my orphanage." First, Polymorph lasts for five turns – so using turn-based mode helps with time management.

Before you go to your camp, you can also select the companion that has the Dominate Beast spell to make dismissing them within those five turns easier. There you have it – your very own orphanage of overpowered kiddos. As Morgana concludes, "Children are the strongest summons in the game as they have infinite attacks and can never enter the turn order, thanks to German video game laws."

Beautiful. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a new exploit to try my hand at in-game and many a Morgana Evelyn video to rewatch for ideas (I'll never forget the 100,000 fireworks and 100+ Runepowder Barrels going off at once, if I'm honest).

As Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 star Charlie Cox insists "any nomination" should go to Gustave's mocap actor, Baldur's Gate 3 performance director says awards should include motion capture category.
