Muslims in India will celebrate Eid al-Adha or Bakrid this week, a major and significant festival for the community. Bakrid will be observed on May 27 or May 28 and the exact date of the festival depends on the sighting of the moon. The festival is a gazetted holiday in India and many states, including Kerala, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, and Haryana have announced holidays. In most parts of India, Bakrid will be celebrated on May 28, 2026.
In Delhi, all Central Government administrative offices located in Delhi and New Delhi will remain closed on May 28, 2026, in observance of Eid al-Adha, instead of the previously scheduled holiday on May 27, 2026.
