Banks in several states are closed today (Wednesday, May 27, 2026) on account of Eid-ul-Adha, also known as Bakrid or Id-ul-Zuha. Bank holidays in India are observed on a state-wise basis, which means branches may remain open in some states and closed in others.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issues an official holiday calendar every year, listing state-specific bank holidays. Customers are therefore advised to check the holiday status in their respective states before planning any branch visit.

Today, banks are closed in Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Assam, Manipur, Jammu and Srinagar, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand to celebrate Eid-UI-Adha (Bakrid)/Id-ul-Zuha).
Why is Bakrid (Id-ul-Zuha) celebrated?
Bakrid, also known as Eid-al-Adha or Id-ul-Zuha, is a major Islamic festival of sacrifice, celebrated globally on the 10th day of the lunar month of Dhu al-Hijjah.
Online banking services to remain available today
Even though bank branches are closed in many states due to Bakrid, digital banking services such as UPI, mobile banking, internet banking, ATMs and cash deposit machines will continue to function normally.
Customers can still transfer funds, pay bills, withdraw cash from ATMs and carry out most online banking activities without interruption.
