The longlist for the 2026 Bafta Games Awards is here and one game is clearly leading the pack with 17 nominations including Best Game — Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The role-playing battle game set in a fictional world called Lumiere based on Belle Époque France and is the brainchild of Guillaume Broche, who left his job at Ubisoft during the coronavirus pandemic to set up indie studio Sandfall Interactive.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 became a sensation the moment it dropped in late April, selling one million copies in just three days and prompting French President Emmanual Macron to personally congratulate the team. “One of the best-rated games in history: and yes, it's French!" said Macron, who called the team at Sandfall Interactive “a shining example of French audacity and creativity”.
