Bad Bunny has hopped his way to the top.
The hit-making reggaetón rapper leads the nominations for the 2022 American Music Awards with eight nominations, including his first for artist of the year.
Beyoncé, Drake and Taylor Swift follow Bad Bunny’s lead with six nods each. The Weeknd, Harry Styles, Adele and Future all copped nominations, while Måneskin, Imagine Dragons, Jack Harlow and Tems also garnered four.
Set to air live from Microsoft Theater at L.A. Live in Los Angeles on Nov. 20, at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC, the American Music Awards has not announced a host yet.
If Bad Bunny wins all the awards he’s nominated for, he would tie Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston for the most AMAs in a single year.
The 28-year-old Puerto Rican superstar, currently on his “World’s Hottest Tour,” is also nominated for favorite male Latin artist with J Balvin, Jhayco, Farruko and Rauw Alejandro. His fourth studio album “Un Verano Sin Ti” is up for this year’s favorite Latin album category.
Swift currently holds the record for most AMA wins overall with 32 trophies. The “Bad Blood” singer holds the record for the most wins in the artist of the year category with six.
Also of note is Elton John, who scored two nominations, making history as the longest-recognized artist in the awards show history, dating back to 1974.
New categories were introduced this year: favorite K-Pop artist, favorite Afrobeats artist, favorite rock song and favorite rock album. Awards for favorite touring artist and favorite soundtrack have returned post pandemic.
The American Music Award for favorite trending song (that Megan Thee Stallion’s “Body” won last year) was retired.
Fans can now start voting for their favorite artists via VoteAMAs.com and Twitter.
