As the cold season arrives, dampness and mould can begin to appear in your home as a result of poor ventilation. Fear not, though, as DIY chain B&Q are selling a bargain plant that is designed to keep mould at bay for only £7.
The Peace Lily plant is ideal for preventing mould as it takes in moisture from the air through its leaves and doesn’t need direct sunlight to thrive.
Mould in the home can happen when there is excess moisture, with warm rooms like bathrooms at particular risk of the issue. It's also common around glass windows and doors during the colder months.
Indoor mould can have a number of negative health effects, causing respiratory infections, asthma and allergies.
Investing in the right houseplant is a simple yet effective way to prevent mould from forming this winter.
At just £7, B&Q's Peace Lily plant comes in a 12cm pot and can be purchased online and in stores. You can also choose from a 17cm pot for £15, while a 21cm one is priced at £22.
A description on the B&Q site says the plant is "ideal for positions with moderate to bright, indirect light, will tolerate some shade".
Giving it five stars, one reviewer said: "Bought this to get rid of my mould problem in the bathroom and it has worked wonders! Not only that but it is a beautiful plant which hasn't stopped flowering. Very easy to care for".
Another impressed shopper penned: "I bought this Peace Lilly last month and it has flourished. Lovely flowers appearing week by week."
While a third added: "Love this, bought a while ago and it's still looking good and healthy in my kitchen window".
M&S also sells a Peace Lily plant for £30, while Bloom & Wild does one for £28.
