High street giant B&M has said it will be closing more of its UK stores in just a matter of days. The budget retailer, which competes with the likes of Home Bargains and Wilko, will be shutting more shops from this Sunday.
Three B&M stores will be getting the chop. B&M says the closures will make way for more stores on the UK high street.
The first closure will be on Boucher Road in Belfast, which will take place on Sunday 26 May. B&M's Kilmarnock store in Queens Drive Retail Park in Scotland will close on the same day.
Customers in Belfast won't be without a B&M store as the new "bigger and better" site will be opening on Friday 24 which the chain says will offer a wider range of branded products. Scottish B&M fans have already seen a new store, complete with a garden centre too, open in Glencairn Retail Park last month.
The people of Bristol will also see their B&M store at the Broadwalk Shopping Centre close this month. This site will shut its doors for good on Wednesday, March 29.
The reason behind the closure is because the shopping centre where it is based has plans to be redeveloped. The plans would see the current 1970s shopping mall structure demolished and replaced with around 800 flats based in several tower blocks, a cinema, small supermarket, a restaurant, a library and dentist surgery, reports the Mirror.
The bargain retailer currently has around 700 stores in the UK and they are doing well at the moment, as it plans to grow its portfolio to 950 stores. B&M also confirmed to the Sun that there would be a "number of openings" over the next few months but did not provide any more details at this time.
A new B&M site in Barnsley which also included a new garden centre opened on March 4 and a store is expected to open in Scunthorpe soon too.
On the Barnsley store opening, a spokesperson from B&M said: “We’re feeling extremely positive about the creation of more jobs for local people, and we hope customers are going to be delighted with their new store. We are all really excited to get the doors open and welcome our new customers through the door.”
