Azets acquires Dorset medical accounting firm in major deal

Accountancy firm Azets has agreed a deal to acquire Sandisons, a specialist medical accounting firm in Dorset, for an undisclosed sum.

Blandford Forum-based Sandisons delivers accountancy and business services to medical practices and medium-sized owner-managed businesses across the South of England and Wales.

The firm, which was founded in 1978 and employs more than 50 staff, became Sandisons in 2004. It acts for more than 160 GP practices and 2,000 individual GPs, consultants, and other medical professionals.

The deal takes Azets’ portfolio of GP practices to more than 350 and and expands its regional footprint in the South West and Wales. The firm said the acquisition would "deepens its sector specialism", whilst Sandisons would "benefit" from access to broader accounting, tax, audit, advisory and business services.

The acquisition will complete in September 2022, subject to regulatory approval. Sandisons will rebrand to Azets once the transaction is complete - but the Dorset-based firm will continue to be led by directors Sunil Sawney, James Broom, Thomas Bradley and Roger Morgan. All 50 staff will be retained as part of the transition, Azets said.

Mr Sawney said the acquisition was an "exciting opportunity" for Sandisons, its staff and clients.

“Day-to-day, it’s very much business as usual. Our clients are at the heart of everything we do, and they will receive the same high level of service from their trusted advisors, now underpinned by Azets’ breadth and depth of capability across several new areas," he said.

The deal marks Azets’ fourth UK acquisition in seven months, as the accounting firm continues to deliver against its ambitious growth strategy to double revenue in the next five years. The Sandisons deal follows the recent acquisition of Inspire Accountants in Poole.

David Owens, regional chief executive of Azets, added: “Sandisons shares our vision for talent development, exceptional service provision, and a culture of innovation. This acquisition adds to our unique market proposition as a leading advisor and provider of professional and outsourced services to SMEs.”

Earlier this month, Azets opened a new Plymouth office. The workspace in Sutton Harbour will house specialists in audit, business advisory, restructuring and insolvency.
