Ayr United skipper Sean McGinty backs Honest Men to 'do something special' this season

Sean McGinty reckons Ayr's players have the chance to write their names into club folklore.

The United skipper, whose late header rescued a point against Arbroath on Saturday, insists the Somerset men can go all the way this season.

And the big centre half believes the dressing room spirit is there to carry Lee Bullen's men to the finish line.

He said: "We're heading back in the right direction and the aim is to catch Queen's Park.

"We’ve had a fantastic season and I think it would be an absolute travesty if we didn’t make the play-offs at a minimum.

“It’s been a case of front-foot football from us this season and we attack with pace.

“Everyone really believes now and as the manager has said to us...why can’t we go on and win it?

“We have 15 games left and a great chance to go and do something special.

"As we showed against Arbroath, we can mix it up if we have to and that's five points we've taken against them now this season.

"The boys are capable of digging in when we have needed the results and the spirit in the dressing room is second to none."

McGinty's point saving header against the Lichties came amidst horrendous conditions as 60mph winds battered Somerset.

And he confessed: “Those were the worst conditions I’ve ever played in.

“I’ve been in some bad games up at Arbroath and also at Morton, but that was even worse.

“The wind was absolutely torturous – it was tough for both sides and we both handled it as well as we could.

"It proved a good point in the end and sets us up nicely for a few away games, starting with the cup trip to Cove."
