Ayr United set up Friday night decider after vital late point relegates Queen of the South

Ayr United know a victory over old boss Ian McCall will secure their Championship status on Friday night.

It follows a point in Dumfries this afternoon in a result which consigned hosts Queen of the South to relegation.

The Honest Men needed a late leveller to salvage a draw thanks to Kerr McInroy's deflected strike which cancelled out Euan East's opener for Queens on 80 minutes.

And after a frenetic game where both sides passed up good chances to win it, boss Lee Bullen insists he's happy Ayr have their destiny in their own hands.

He said: "One of these days we're going to catch someone for six or seven goals with the chances we're creating.

"And I've said to the players in there that you've got a really big problem as a football club when you're not creating opportunities.

"But that's two weeks in a row where we should have scored four or five goals.

"Fair play to Queens, they gave it a right go as they had to but a point was the least we deserved out of that game given the chances we missed.

"I thought it was going to be another one of those days but luckily enough we showed that resilience again which has come to the fore in these last five or six games.

"The fans were absolutely amazing again and came down in huge numbers for us.

"They could easily have turned when we went behind but they stuck right with us.

"I think they can genuinely see that the performances are there with this group. It's all too easy to get negative when the results aren't coming, but you can see how we're playing.

"The fans are being so positive and we'll need them again for sure next week."
