An extensive helicopter rescue search ended as a 'false alarm' in Bristol this evening (February 3). Avon Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of someone crying for help at the Avon Gorge at around 7pm.
Multiple fire crews, a drone team and a coastguard helicopter rushed to the scene near the Clifton Suspension Bridge. They were unsure which side of the Avon Gorge the 'cries for help' were coming from so checked both extensively.
However, it has since been confirmed that the cries were actually coming from a man "practicing his shouting" on the Leigh Woods side of the river. He was not in danger and the rescue search has ended.

Danny McCarthy, station manager at Avon Fire and Rescue Service, told Bristol Live: "We received reports from the public of someone crying for help at the Avon Gorge. At first we were unsure which side the cries were coming from - the Clifton Downs side or the Leigh Woods Side.
"We deployed fire crews, a drone team and a coast guard helicopter. A male was eventually found on the Leigh Woods side practicing his shouting.
"It was a false alarm and the search has ended."
