The Selective Service System, the government agency which deals with teh database of men to be called up to serve if there is an emergency, submitted a proposed rule to the Office of Informattion and Regulatory Affairs on March 30 that says eligible men will automatically be registered into the military draft pool. Most men between the 18 to 25 age are already required to register with the Selective Service but the new rule proposes an automatic registration. This was mandated in December 2025 as part of the fiscal 2026 National Defense Austhorization.
If this is done, there will be no need for self-registration. The proposed rule is currently under review by the regulatory affairs office and awaiting finalization.
