Australian prosecutors on Thursday dropped a charge against a Papua New Guinea government minister accused of assaulting a woman in Sydney.

Former Petroleum Minister Jimmy Maladina had pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The charge carries a potential maximum of five years in prison.
