Authorities in Paris have reported that a member of the Australian Olympic field hockey team was apprehended in Paris for allegedly attempting to purchase cocaine. The incident took place in the 9th arrondissement of Paris during an overnight operation conducted by the police.

The Paris prosecutor's office has confirmed that the drug transaction was disrupted by law enforcement officers, leading to the detention of a 28-year-old Australian field hockey player who was identified as the alleged buyer. Additionally, a 17-year-old individual believed to be the seller was also taken into custody.

The Australian Olympic Committee has issued a statement acknowledging the incident and mentioned that no formal charges have been filed against the athlete. The committee assured that they are actively investigating the matter and providing necessary support to the team member involved.

Both Australian officials and Paris prosecutors have chosen not to disclose the identities of the individuals involved in the incident. The International Hockey Federation (FIH) declined to comment on the situation, stating that they have no further information beyond the Australian Olympic Committee's statement.

It was noted that the Australian men's and women's field hockey teams were recently eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Olympic Games. The men's team had secured a silver medal in the Tokyo Games held in 2021.
