Austin Stowell Cast As Young Leroy Jethro Gibbs In NCIS Prequel

NCIS: Origins to explore Gibbs' early career with Mike Franks.

Austin Stowell has been cast as a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs in CBS' upcoming NCIS prequel series, NCIS: Origins. The series, set to air in the 2024-2025 broadcast season, will delve into the years before NCIS, starting in 1991. Stowell will portray Gibbs as he embarks on his career as a special agent on a team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks.

Mark Harmon, who originally played Leroy Jethro Gibbs in NCIS, will return to the series to narrate. Harmon, who starred in NCIS for 19 seasons before departing in 2021, cited a desire to spend more time at home as a key factor in his decision to leave the show.

Stowell, known for his roles in various TV shows and movies, including A Friend of the Family and The Hating Game, will step into the iconic role of Gibbs. His diverse acting credits also include appearances in Catch 22, Amazing Stories, and Battle of the Sexes.

NCIS: Origins will be executive produced by Harmon, Sean Harmon, David J. North, and Gina Lucita Monreal. North and Monreal will co-write the premiere episode and serve as co-showrunners for the series.

The premiere date for NCIS: Origins has not yet been announced, but fans can anticipate a fresh perspective on the beloved character of Leroy Jethro Gibbs in this exciting new installment of the NCIS franchise.
