Liverpool have been handed a major transfer boost after reports have emerged that Real Madrid won’t make a move for Aurelien Tchouameni this summer.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Tchouameni promises to be one of the transfer sagas of the off season. As one of the most sought after young players in Europe this summer, if the Reds were to pull off the £59m acquisition of the Monaco midfielder, it would be a huge achievement. Real Madrid were seen as favourites for the French international but French journalist Fabrice Hawkins has said that Los Blancos won’t make a move for him this summer unless there is outgoing transfer business at the Bernebau. This could give Liverpool a clear run to sign Tchouameni.
He tweeted: “If there is no major departure in the middle, Real Madrid will not position themselves on Aurélien Tchouaméni this summer. Ancelotti likes the Frenchman but wants to keep his current midfielders. The future of AT [Aurelien Tchouameni] should be written in England if he has to leave Monaco. Paris [PSG] still follows him.”

Marca reported last week that Liverpool have emerged as front-runners for the Monaco midfielder. They explained that Madrid, who were seen as the favourites for this signature, are happy with their midfield options and have decided to postpone their bid to sign Tchouameni for another season. French football journalist Julien Maynard of Telefoot went even further and said it was ‘advantage Liverpool’ in the race for the French international.
Further reports coming out of France are suggesting that a deal is close as Foot Mercato said Liverpool remain ‘ideally placed’ to acquire Tchouameni. The same report also says that joining the Reds is thought to be ‘a priority’ for the midfielder.
The ECHO recently explained that Tchouameni fits the profile of the player the Reds view as being able to add to the squad in terms of age, versatility and physical attributes. He would be a key part of Klopp’s gradual evolution of the squad to fill the engine room with younger talent after signing a new contract last month.
Despite the hugely successful campaign it has been for Jurgen Klopp’s side, work continues in the background to prepare for next season and the acquisition of Tchouameni would be a brilliant start.
