Aurelien Tchouameni issues update on his future amid Manchester United transfer links

AS Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has admitted that he is not thinking about leaving the French giants amid ongoing links connecting him with a move to Manchester United.

The 22-year-old, who is also being linked with a move to several other big-name European heavyweights, is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in the world at this moment in time and his list of admirers is continuing to grow. Joining Monaco from Bordeaux in 2020, the defensive-midfielder has gone from strength-to-strength in a very short space of time and has earned eight caps for France since making his debut as recently as September.

He has become a familiar figure in the national squad and is doing his chances of making manager Didier Deschamps' final squad for this year's World Cup little harm at all. He also netted his first goal for his country against the Ivory Coast in a 2-1 win on Friday.

However, although he is looking to get into the World Cup squad as a Monaco player, it is possible that he could be playing for another club by the time the tournament kicks-off in November, with speculation concerning his future continuing to mount. Nevertheless, the Frenchman has refused to be drawn on speculation, insisting he is continuing to focus on the here and now.

"I did not ask myself this question," Tchouameni told Le Parisien. "It is certain that I am not the same player since my arrival in Monaco.

"I passed caps but I worked for a long time to get where I am today. Quite honestly, I'm not focusing on what's next.

"I continue to work and progress and we will see later."

As well as United being closely linked with the midfielder, Spanish giants Real Madrid have also expressed no shortage of interest. However, Tchouameni does not believe he needs to source a move to a club of the Spanish giants' size to bolster his chances of becoming a regular starter for France.

He continued: "I don't know, maybe it's a discussion I need to have with the coach. But, you don't have to be a Real Madrid or Manchester City player to be called up for selection.

"We see players here who also play for very good clubs like Wissam (Ben Yedder) and me at AS Monaco. Today I had a few starts in blue and I'm an AS Monaco player so it's not a question I've asked myself for the moment."
