A DELEGATION of Flemish independence supporters will join an All Under One Banner (AUOB) rally in Falkirk this weekend.
The Flemish representatives from the VSYC will join independence supporters from across Scotland in the town to “learn and show solidarity”.
A statement from the VSYC said: “We travel to learn and through our presence we want to show our solidarity with the Scottish people and make it clear that Flanders, too, has everything in its power to prepare the independence project itself, but that for the time being the political will is lacking.”
The main theme of the march is to “make poverty history”, with a particular focus on the impact the cost-of-living crisis has had on children.
In a post on social media, AUOB wrote: “The policies and priorities of the UK Government are causing a massive hike in the cost of living: Inflation, wage cuts, benefit cuts, tax rises and galloping energy costs which are disproportionately impacting the poorest in Scotland.
“This is a blight on people’s lives that touches on every aspect of their wellbeing. It impacts on their mental and physical health, and condemns many children to a life disaffected by hunger and fear, with diminished prospects for the future.”
Local MP John McNally, who will be addressing the rally at the end of the march, noted the “timeliness” of the demonstration's theme.
He said: “An independent Scotland will have its own publicly owned Scotgrid that will end once and for all the bizarre national grid system and give peace of mind to everyone in Scotland on the stability of energy bills.
“We can make Caledonia dreaming a reality and Saturday’s AUOB march will help deliver our cause. Welcome everyone to Falkirk and another great day of campaigning for independence.”
VSYC have also noted the pertinence of the march’s theme as Flemish families are also being hit by the energy crisis.
The group wrote in a statement: “The socio-economic crisis and the social challenges that lie ahead also force Flanders to make such a reflection. We are already in an institutional crisis. The Belgian engine is sputtering."
The march itself will start at 12.30pm sharp and start from Glenfuir road and carry on through Camelon Road, Westbridge Street, High Street, East Bridge Street, Corporation Street, Eastburn Drive, Estate Avenue, Seaton Place and finish in Callendar Park where a rally will be held.
