An Audi driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after ploughing the back of into a lorry.
Police were called to the M62 westbound between junctions 9 and 8 near Warrington following reports of a crash at around 3am on Thursday. Police, fire and ambulance attended the scene and the carriageway was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident
North West Motorway Police shared pictures of the scene which showed heavy damage to the black Audi and to the service lorry which had signs diverting drivers away from people working on the motorway.

A 30-year-old woman from Knowsley, the driver of the car, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. She has since been arrested and was taken to hospital as a cautionary measure.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "At 3am police were called to reports that a car, a black Audi A1, had collided with a motorway service lorry on M62 westbound between junctions 9 and 8. Police, fire and ambulance attended the scene and the carriageway was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident
"The driver of the car, a 30-year-old woman from Knowsley, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. She was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure."
