Aston Villa win the Europa League after thrashing Freiburg in Istanbul

  • Youri Tielemans and Emi Buendia put Villa two goals ahead just before half time. Morgan Rogers scored a third just after half time to seal an emphatic victory in Istanbul.
  • The victory marks Villa’s first major trophy success since 1996, when they won the League Cup . Villa last won the UEFA Cup in 1982, 44 years ago.
  • Unai Emery has now won the Europa League a record five times: Three times with Sevilla, once with Villarreal and now once with Villa.
  • Prince William, a staunch supporter of the club, was in attendance in Istanbul. He was seen celebrating as Villa’s goals went in.
