Assam plans action against people who forged documents to be in NRC

GUWAHATI

The Assam government is planning action against people of “doubtful nationality” who forged documents to be enlisted in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) updated in August 2019.

About 19.06 lakh out of 3.3 crore applicants were kept out of Assam’s NRC which was updated based on a 1951 list. During the scrutiny of the documents submitted to establish citizenship, it was found that the documents of about 2 lakh applicants were forged.
