The draw for "Mobile Legends: Bang Bang" at the 2026 Asian Games has been released by Moonton Games. Did you notice the issue? Indonesia and Malaysia ended up in the same group, and only two teams from that group will advance.
The studio published the draw on Sept. 17. Teams play from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1 at Aichi Sky Expo in Japan, so coaches get less than two weeks to study opponents they can finally name.
"MLBB" has never featured at the Asian Games before. The debut also falls in the game's 10th anniversary year, and Moonton keeps reminding everyone of that.
How the Groups Look
Eleven teams. Four groups. Myanmar got Uzbekistan and Hong Kong, China for company in Group A. Over in Group B, Indonesia has to deal with both Malaysia and Saudi Arabia. Group C sends the Philippines up against Jordan and Kazakhstan. Group D breaks the pattern with just two teams, Cambodia and Mongolia.
Most fans will watch Group B first, and Moonton's own preview highlights it too. Indonesia picked a new-generation roster around the Alter Ego core and added EVOS' Albert. Malaysia chose experience. Yums and Cikugais lead a squad that wants the country's first Asian Games medal in this title. Saudi Arabia completes the group, and they don't have to top it to wreck somebody's week. A single upset sends a favorite home.
Players to Watch
The Philippines bring KarlTzy and Kelra, two of the biggest names the game has. Moonton calls the country the leading competitive region in "MLBB." Qualifying dented that label, though, because Cambodia beat them 2-0.
Keep an eye on Myanmar as well. The Yangon Galacticos core forms the backbone of that lineup. That same group reached the Mid Season Cup Grand Final at the Esports World Cup in Paris and lost 4-3 to Team Spirit. Nobody from Southeast Asia came closer to stopping Team Spirit, who became the first team from outside the region to win an official international "MLBB" major.
I wouldn't write off Cambodia either. Beating the Philippines, even in a qualifier, changes how a team walks into a venue.
A Bigger Stage for a 10-Year-Old Game
Ray Ng, Head of Esports Ecosystem at Moonton Games, called the debut "a defining moment in our 10th anniversary year."
The numbers explain why the game earned its invitation. Just look at the size of this thing. Players have installed it 1.5 billion times, by Moonton's count, and 110 million of them show up every month. This summer's Mid Season Cup peaked at 2.89 million viewers on Esports Charts' tracker. Nothing else at the Esports World Cup pulled a bigger crowd. Ten years of ranked seasons have also produced third-party marketplaces that list mlbb accounts independently of the publisher, which tells you how much value players attach to their progress.
Format and Schedule
Inside each group, everybody plays everybody once. Each series uses a best-of-three format. Finish in the top two positions, and you move on to the quarterfinals. Group D lets both of its teams advance, so the match between Cambodia and Mongolia only decides seeding.
Single elimination takes over after that. One bad series in the quarters or semis ends your run, and both rounds remain best-of-three. Only the Grand Final on Oct. 1 goes longer. That one's a best-of-seven.
A three-team group gives each side just two series before the cut. Nobody gets time to warm up.

Moonton has tied the event into the game itself. Reserve the Oct. 1 final through an in-game event between Sept. 16 and 30, and you can claim an Asian Games recall effect from Oct. 1 to 5. Complete tasks before Oct. 2 and you earn a themed emoji. Everyone gets an avatar border from Oct. 1, once the tournament crowns its champion.
The studio has also added a Hero Personality Card feature that matches players with a hero. Moonton says around 20 Asian Games athletes and well-known pros will share their own cards.
All of this arrives in the middle of the ALL IN MLBB anniversary campaign. Its Gala Weekend opens on Sept. 25 and lets players pick from 265 skins.
What Comes After
Gold gets decided on Oct. 1. What then? The calendar swings to the M8 World Championship. Moonton takes that one to Istanbul in January, and it has widened the Wild Card stage to 10 teams. That's a record.
