NEW DELHI: The winners of the wrestling selection trials for the Asian Games in Hangzhou have shot off a letter to the sports ministry and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA)-appointed ad-hoc panel demanding time till August 20 to prepare for another set of trials for the World Championships to be held in Belgrade, which will act as a qualifying event for the Paris Olympics 2024.
The wrestlers, who fear getting injured having to return to the competition mat at such a short notice after participating in the trials for the Asiad on July 22-23 here, have reasoned that cutting down on weights again would lead to injuries and fatigue. Pooja Gehlot (women's 50kg), Antim Panghal (women's 53kg), Mansi Ahlawat (women's 57kg), Aman Sehrawat (men's 57kg), Vishal Kaliraman (men's 65kg), Vicky (men's 92kg), Sunil (greco-roman 87kg) and Narinder Cheema (greco-roman 97kg) are among the signatories to the letter, a copy of which has also been marked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
