Ashton Gate teases 'bumper concert season next summer' after Arctic Monkeys gig

Arctic Monkeys wowed the crowd at Ashton Gate in Bristol last night - but there's now a long wait until the next big concert at the stadium, as they were the only booking. Back in 2022, The Killers and Elton John both played at the ground, the latter on two separate dates.

And back in 2019, Rod Stewart, Take That, Muse and the Spice Girls all played the venue, in what was a pretty phenomenal year for music fans in the city. But, after Arctic Monkeys' stellar performance brought in a record crowd yesterday (May 29), it won't be until next summer now before we see more music at Ashton Gate.

Many music lovers have been debating if the lone booking was down to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which took place between November 20 and December 18, 2022, and meant that the football season was delayed and therefore ran over its usual scheduling. Staff at the ground have told Bristol Live that there's no more concerts until next summer, because of a complete pitch renovation - but it seems it will be worth the wait, as they've teased a "bumper season" for 2024.

Ashton Gate is the home ground not just for Bristol City football club, but also for Bristol Bears rugby club - who play in the top division - so there's plenty to get ready ahead of the start of the next sporting season. The 2023/24 Championship football season (which Bristol City will be a part of) is set to start on Saturday, August 5, while Premiership rugby will start back on the weekend of September 8-10.

An Ashton Gate spokesperson said: "We are delighted with the success and reviews of the Arctic Monkeys last night. It was wonderful to see Ashton Gate in concert-mode once again with a record crowd enjoying themselves in the stadium.

"A complete pitch renovation is now underway, which means no more concerts this year, as the ground staff need this time to get the pitch in pristine condition for the start of the 23/24 football and rugby seasons. We are looking forward to having a bumper concert season next summer and will reveal more on that soon.”
