Asda’s new extra special Easter eggs that weigh the same as a football

Easter is just six and a half weeks away and it’ll soon swing around. As well as being an important day in the religious calendar, it brings with it lots of fun, excitement and of course, chocolate.

Supermarket shelves are filling up with Easter eggs and other treats, with Tesco offering more than 200 eggs , and Morrisons own range including a huge chocolate doughnut.

Now it’s time to shine a spotlight on Asda, who have launched a selection of extra special eggs that weigh the same as a football. The 400g eggs are packed full of chocolate encased treats, from pretzel pieces to dried raspberries.

The eggs in the extra special range cost £6 each and I was stunned at the weight when I lifted each one from their cardboard packaging. The chocolate is very thick, so as to keep hold of all the treats embedded into it.

The white chocolate egg features a sprinkling of raspberries and marshmallows, and has been hand decorated to finish it off.

Meanwhile my favourite from the range, the extra thick honeycomb, pretzel and almond egg coats the crunchy pieces with milk chocolate. The chocolate itself has been infused with caramel, which makes this rather adult egg feel even more indulgent.

About the range, Asda said: “We've always believed that to truly excel at something, you need to be passionate about it. And our passion is quality.

"Our Extra Special range is driven by this passion and because we only ever work with people who care as much as we do, it promises exceptional quality each and every time.”

For lovers of dark chocolate there’s also an extra special peppermint and cocoa nib egg , infused with peppermint oil and scattered with crunchy cocoa nibs, also for £6.

The supermarket has launched an offer on their branded eggs, which means shoppers can mix and match four large eggs for £10, including brands like Cadbury’s, Nestle and Thorntons.

Asda shoppers can exclusively shop the limited edition Oreo White Chocolate Easter Eggs, which have been causing a stir on social media since their launch. Cadbury’s latest Easter innovation, the five pack of White Chocolate Oreo Eggs is exclusive to Asda and hundreds of shoppers have taken to social media to share their delight in spotting the sweet treat at their local store.

One wrote: “WHITE CHOCOLATE OREO EGGS! YES!! About time! Thank you @asda for stocking these beauties! These are right up my street as a white chocolate lover.”

Another added: “White chocolate is just the best and the white chocolate shell on these is super thick. The cookies and cream filling (which was basically filled completely) is absolutely delicious. I will definitely be getting these again and stocking up seeing as they are limited edition.”

While the pack of five retails at £1.75, the Cadbury White Oreo Large Easter Egg is included in the supermarket’s four for £10 Easter Egg offer.

Here are some other Easter treats included in Asda’s four for £10 offer:
