- World No 1 Aryna Sabalenka has been knocked out of the French Open after losing in the quarter-finals to Diana Shnaider on Wednesday.
- Sabalenka was the heavy favourite against the No 25 seed from Russia and appeared on course for victory when she won the opening set 6-3 and then went a break up in the second set.
- However, Shnaider fought back, winning the second set 7-5 to force a decider in blustery conditions at Roland Garros .
- Shnaider then dominated the final set, winning it without dropping a game, to complete a 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 victory.
- Shnaider is now into the French Open semi-finals where she will face Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska, who beat Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya earlier on Wednesday.
