Arsenal set for £20m transfer windfall as Mikel Arteta gives 'contractual timing' hint

Arsenal are set for a £20million cash boost before the transfer window even opens.

Mikel Arteta's rebuild is set to continue after spending almost £150m last summer with the likes of Martin Odegaard, Ben White and Aaron Ramsdale arriving at the club. The Gunners will look to sign a new striker following the exit of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

And they've already got money to play around with as two players are set to leave the Emirates. Marseille will make their loan move for Matteo Guendouzi permanent for around £10m, while it's now been reported that Lucas Torreira will follow suit.

The Uruguayan signed a similar deal to Guendouzi as he joined Fiorentina on a season-long loan, with an option to buy inserted in the deal worth around £12m. It's claimed the Serie A side will look to trigger that clause with talks ongoing between both parties.

Arsenal will look to put that money towards a new no.9 with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah set to leave as free agents in the summer unless either sign a new contract from now until the end of the season. The Gunners hope to keep the Frenchman for at least another year as he's thrived since Aubameyang joined Barcelona, taking the captain's armband on an interim basis.

Lacazette is also a great role model to the younger players in the dressing room and several players look up to him. The striker has been equally as effective on the pitch, leading the line for Arsenal with vital contributions during their current five-game winning run.

Lacazette has not been prolific in front of goal, but his link-up play has been top-notch, bringing the best out of Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. He did get on the scoresheet against Leicester, however, finding the back of the net with an emphatic penalty to seal the 2-0 victory at the Emirates to boost their top-four hopes.

Arteta recently gave an update on his contract situation ahead of their Premier League clash against Liverpool on Wednesday night. The Spaniard insists talks are progressing but it's just about getting everyone "on the same page" in regards to the length of the extension.

He said: "I think with Alex it's very clear what he brings to the team. He's shown it consistently since I've been here, and what we have to resolve is the contractual timing, in the best possible way, and when we all align on the same page."
