Arsenal's Jonas Eidevall lists the three qualities that helped Beth Mead with Ballon d'Or achievement

Arsenal Women's manager Jonas Eidevall has listed the three qualities Beth Mead has always possessed before he came to the club and at present which helped the forward get to the point in her career where she was being recognised on a global front at the most recent Ballon d'Or awards.

Despite missing out by a single point on the 2022 Women's Ballon d'Or award at the expense of the currently sidelined Alexia Putellas, Arsenal's number 9 has had a superb 2021-22 campaign. Not only did she play an instrumental part in the European Championships success under Sarina Wiegman in the summer with the Lionesses, but the former Sunderland prospect also won the Golden Boot award, received the Player of the Tournament accolade and was named England's Player of the Year after the tournament.

This alongside the 33 goal contributions the 27-year-old attained in all competitions for the Gunners during the domestic season, has culminated in Mead falling just short in this year's Ballon d'Or but achieving second place and only losing by one point isn't something to be frowned upon or overlooked.

"Yeah, she of course, looking back at a very very strong season obviously also at international level," manager Eidevall reflected on Mead's start to the new campaign. " I think she has started the season in a very good way as well, which shows that, stands for consistency and thorough ability to perform at this level which is so important to have players like that.

Whilst Arsenal supporters may still be a tad disappointed that one of their favourite players missed out on an award that most in this country would argue she deserved, all focus from the player in questions perspective will be shifting back onto the pitch with Lyon in the UEFA Women's Champions League and Liverpool away in the FA WSL up next.

Having performed at such a high level under former coach Joe Montemurro and in the present day too, Eidevall listed the three qualities England's number 22 possesses in abundance which helped her achieve such a global recognition with her Ballon d'Or achievement.

Speaking ahead of the North London outfits clash in the UEFA Women's Champions League against Lyon, the Swede added: "Beth Mead provides exactly the same energy, ambition and motivation into the sport as she did when I came in, in July of last year.

"And that is said in the most positive way I can think of, because for all those successes that she has had in her career, it hasn't changed her energy and she's still as hard working she’s still us as humbled. Still as much of a growing person to have in the squad that is also characteristic that is a lot of value."
