Arsenal's Europa League clash with PSV in doubt due to concerns over lack of police resources

Arsenal's Europa League clash with PSV Eindhoven is in doubt due to concerns over police resources before Queen Elizabeth II's funeral on Monday, September 19.

Following the Premier League's decision to postpone all games at the weekend, there have also been questions over whether European fixtures in England will be cancelled.

It looks as though most games will go ahead, but Arsenal's clash vs PSV is now in doubt due to concerns over a lack of police resources.

Goal correspondent Charles Watts on Twitter gave an update stating: "Talks ongoing today about Thursday night's match. Police are yet to make a final decision. Further discussions with UEFA in the next few hours. Arsenal & PSV were confident before the weekend it would go ahead, a bit less so now. Arsenal is hoping to be able to confirm either way today.

"Just to make clear, this isn't an Arsenal thing. It's not that the game is in doubt due to a mark of respect, etc. It's purely because the police are unsure they can give up the resource, given they are putting in place the biggest police operation in London's history this week."

Charles Watts on whether Arsenal vs PSV could be postponed

Nevertheless, a spokesperson from the Met Police informed football.london over the weekend that the decision to postpone a match is solely up to the relevant football authority: "Whether matches go ahead is a matter for the football authorities. If fixtures do take place, the Met will work with the relevant partners and ensure that appropriate policing plans are in place."

Looking ahead, there's further doubt over Arsenal's upcoming Premier League fixture against Brentford on Sunday (September 18). The DCMS have confirmed that its guidance remains the same: "Our guidance will stay the same. There's no obligation to cancel as far as the government is concerned. But it's ultimately up to the Premier League and EFL to make those decisions."

Whilst it's thought that most Premier League games will go ahead this coming weekend, some reports have suggested that matches scheduled to take place in London - including Brentford vs Arsenal - could be postponed for a second week in a row, again due to a lack of police resources ahead of the funeral.
