Arsenal receive Serge Gnabry 'boost' as Mikel Arteta turns attention to new £50m transfer deal

Seeing Serge Gnabry in Arsenal colours again next season would be a dream, but sadly that's exactly what it is at the moment, just a dream. Despite being linked with a potential return this summer due to disagreements over a new contract at Bayern Munich, there is no indication that the German international will be back at the Emirates Stadium anytime soon.

Following talks with Leeds United for Raphinha, it's no secret that Mikel Arteta is keen on adding a new right-sided forward to his frontline. However, convincing a player of Gnabry's stature without Champions League football could prove rather difficult.

Of course, you should never say never. After all, crazier things have happened in a transfer window, but it's not looking likely. Although this is a shame, we may still be able to take a small positive away from the situation in knowing that Gnabry is likely to snub interest from a direct rival.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Chelsea have started to 'explore' the possibility of signing Gnabry, but despite this, Sky Sports Germany and BILD Sport both claim that he is not keen on joining another London club due to his ties with the Gunners.

Meanwhile, Arsenal appears to have turned their attention elsewhere. That's because various reports from France and Brazil suggest Lyon's Lucas Paqueta has become an active target. It's thought that technical director Edu has confirmed the club's interest to the player's representatives, and a formal offer is expected to be submitted.

Several names, including Youri Tielemans and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, are said to be options for Mikel Arteta this summer, but now it seems Paqueta has leapt to the top of the list.

Any potential deal won't come cheaply, with Lyon reportedly demanding at least €60m (£50m) for his services. However, Arsenal will be hoping to lower the asking price with the player believed to be keen on a move to the Premier League.
