Arsenal receive major injury boost as Leicester consider James Maddison transfer

Arsenal will have enjoyed watching Manchester United drop points in the Premier League this weekend. But now it is time for the Gunners to do their job in the race for a top-four spot.

Tottenham Hotspur moved level on points with their north London rivals on Sunday with a win over Newcastle United, although Mikel Arteta and his team can take comfort from the two games in hand they still have.

One of those comes on Monday and a tricky assignment awaits against their former player Patrick Vieira, who is now in charge of a vibrant Crystal Palace outfit. Victory for Arsenal south of the river would feel like a big step towards securing Champions League football for next season.

Injury boost for key Palace clash

Arsenal may be able to call on their starting goalkeeper for the crunch clash in south London on Monday, with Aaron Ramsdale back in full training ahead of the game.

The England international missed the trip to Aston Villa before the international break - Bernd Leno was drafted in and kept a clean sheet - and also withdrew from Three Lions contention.

Speaking ahead of the game, Arteta provided an update on the condition of Ramsdale and said he's hopeful he'll be ready for Palace.

"Aaron is a doubt," said the Arsenal boss. "He's still feeling not great. He hasn’t trained yet so we don’t know what he will be able to do on Monday."

The Foxes have made strides by smart sales and acquisitions in recent seasons, although the impact of Covid-19 and the lack of European football may prompt the departure of a few important players.

Maddison has kicked on this season and has been Leicester's standout player in recent weeks. Arsenal were strongly linked with a move for the England international ahead of the current campaign, although they eventually opted to bring in Martin Odegaard on a permanent deal from Real Madrid.

Saliba tipped to make big impact

William Saliba is expected to make a big impression at Arsenal next season, having shone on loan at Marseille this term.

The young defender is one of the most exciting defensive prospects in Europe and it will be intriguing to see how he fares in competition with the likes of Ben White and Gabriel, who have been terrific in tandem this season.

Mirror Football has been looking at the Gunners' defensive situation and how he could make a similar impact at Arsenal to what Ruben Dias made at Manchester City.
