Arsenal 'ready to invest' £30m on transfer target as Edu's striker shortlist 'revealed'

Arsenal are extremely interested in signing Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca if recent reports are to be believed.

The north Londoners are looking to sign at least one centre-forward in the summer transfer window and Manchester City frontman Gabriel Jesus and AS Roma star Tammy Abraham are two names on the shortlist of technical director Edu. The Brazilian transfer chief has even held talks with Jesus' representatives in recent times, with the player now into the final 13 months of his contract at the Etihad Stadium.

The Athletic have previously reported that the aforementioned Scamacca, along with Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez, Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Victor Osimhen of Napoli have all been discussed by Gunners boss Mikel Arteta and Edu. Now, Italian outlet Republica have claimed that Arteta is keen to bring Scamacca to the Emirates and Arsenal are ready to invest €35million (£30million) to sign the 23-year-old following an impressive 2021/22 season that saw him net 16 times in Serie A.

The report claims that negotiations will enter 'the hot phase' in the coming days, but the player would rather sign for Inter Milan. Still, a move to the San Siro is complicated as the Nerazzurri like both Paulo Dybala and Romelu Lukaku whilst his parent club Sassuolo are also demanding €50million (£43million) if they are to part ways with their star man this summer.

It is also claimed that the Gunners are 'very interested' in Nigerian international Osimhen, although they are unwilling to offer more than €60million (£51.5million), €40million (£34.3million) less than Napoli are demanding for the former Lille maestro. The 23-year-old has previously been heavily linked with a move to north London and he has even admitted that he turned down a move as a teenager.

Speaking to the Independent back in 2020, Osimhen said: “I spoke with Arsene Wenger after the tournament (Under-17 World Cup) ended and he wanted me to come to Arsenal “I had a lot of options. Barcelona; Inter Milan; Atletico Madrid; Juventus and the rest.

"Arsenal was a good option but it wasn’t the best at the time. I wanted to start playing as soon as I turned 18. I wanted to go to a place where I had time to invest in my game and improve physically.

"Wolfsburg showed me that possibility. Of course, one day I’d like to play for a big club in England... my priority is to play a lot of games. Signing for a big club and being on the bench is not exciting for me."
