Arsenal took a significant step forward in their transfer negotiations with Shakhtar Donetsk for their priority January signing Mykhaylo Mudryk upon launching a third bid. The Gunners saw two bids earlier in the window rebuffed for the 22-year-old, but a deal is now closer than ever to being completed, as football.london understands.
£55million plus add-ons was the opening offer from Arsenal and the latest bid for Mudryk indicates the seriousness from the north London outfit in acquiring their January priority. It has been suggested that the fee for the Ukrainian could be in the region of £75-80million which would take him above Nicolas Pepe as Arsenal's record signing.
The breakthrough for Arsenal comes as a huge boost after Chelsea registered a serious interest in signing Mudryk, with Shakhtar chief Dario Srna meeting Chelsea representatives at Stamford Bridge last Thursday.
