Arsenal news: Youri Tielemans 'agrees personal terms' as Lisandro Martinez alternative emerges

Your Arsenal morning digest on Sunday, July 3.

Youri Tielemans 'agrees personal terms'

Arsenal have reportedly agreed personal terms with Leicester City star Youri Tielemans ahead of a potential move to the Emirates.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for Tielemans this summer after it was revealed the 25-year-old was on the club's shortlist this summer. The Belgian midfielder recently turned down the offer of a new contract at the King Power Stadium and only has a year left on his current deal with the Foxes.

Reports last week suggested that the north Londoners had 'cooled' their interest in Tielemans as they focused on negotiating deals elsewhere, but the latest rumours are that the club have agreed personal terms with the Belgium international.

Cody Gakpo targeted as Raphinha backup plan

Arsenal are interested in signing PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo should the Gunners fail to secure a deal for Leeds United star Raphinha.

football.london reported earlier this year that Arsenal were interested in signing the Netherlands international this summer despite the 22-year-old extending his contract with PSV in January. Gakpo scored 18 goals and registered 15 assists in 42 games across all competitions for the Dutch outfit last season.

According to reports, the north Londoners could make a move for Gakpo should they fail to land Leeds superstar Raphinha.

Arsenal's Lisandro Martinez alternative

Arsenal have reportedly identified Alejandro Grimaldo as an alternative to Lisandro Martinez if Manchester United pip the Gunners to signing the Ajax defender.

Martinez is the Gunners' priority defensive transfer target this summer and are locked in a bidding war with United, yet neither side have met Ajax's £43million asking price so far. Mikel Arteta sees the 24-year-old playing more as a left-back rather than a centre-back due to his ability on the ball and physical stature.

Reports from Portugal suggest Arsenal have identified Benfica's Grimaldo as a potential alternative to Martinez should the Argentine defender chooses to move to Manchester ahead of north London. The Gunners were linked with a move for Grimaldo back in 2019, but the Spaniard's long-term deal and £60million release clause saw the north Londoners opt for Kieran Tierney instead.
