Arsenal news: William Saliba to sign new contract as Declan Rice sends message

Arsenal are looking to build on an impressive campaign by significantly strengthening their squad this summer.

Mikel Arteta's side fell just five points short of Premier League champions Manchester City and are hoping to go one step further next season. A host of top players have been linked with Arsenal, while a number of outgoings are also expected.

Mirror Football understands that there could be up to eight high-profile departures, meaning it could be an incredibly busy transfer window for Arsenal fans.

Here's a round-up of the latest news from the Emirates.

Saliba to extend Arsenal stay

Arsenal defender William Saliba is set to sign a new four-year contract following months of discussions.

Saliba was integral to Arsenal's Premier League title charge last season, with their bid falling away after he suffered a season-ending back injury in March. And following interest from clubs abroad, Mirror Football understands he has agreed terms on a new deal with the Gunners.

He has not yet put pen to paper, but is expected to sign an extension before pre-season starts that will see him remain an Arsenal player until 2027.

Reason behind Caicedo interest

Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo has been heavily linked with a switch to the Emirates this summer after Arsenal failed to sign him back in January.

Caicedo went public with his desire to join the Gunners, but Brighton held firm and he ended up signing a new contract. However, Roberto De Zerbi has admitted he now expects Caicedo to follow Alexis Mac Allister out the door.

And a major reason behind Arteta's interest in the Ecuadorian international is his versatility, with the Arsenal boss keen to ensure his side has enough strength in depth to cope with a Champions League return.

Rice sends West Ham message

Arsenal target Declan Rice has thanked West Ham supporters after owner David Sullivan revealed the Europa Conference League final win would be his final game for the club.

"I think it has to be," Sullivan admitted. "We promised him he could go. He set his heart on going. You can't ask for a man who has committed more to us this season."

And Rice has now sent a message to the West Ham fans, who are desperate for him to snub a move to Arsenal and stay at West Ham. "Thank you to the fans, staff, my friends and my family for all the support," he wrote on Instagram. "I'm glad we could bring it home for you. It's an honour to captain this football Club. History makers."
