Arsenal could swoop for Napoli forward Victor Osimhen before the transfer window closes next week, it has been claimed.
But Mikel Arteta's side could face competition for the player's signature from Newcastle United as they chase an alternative to Dusan Vlahovic after missing out on the Fiorentina striker.
The Gunners are also trying to get a move for Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo over the line, but the move seems to have hit the brakes – because of Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.
It comes as ex-captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang faces fresh humiliation after being excluded from their mid-season training camp in Dubai during the Premier League's winter break.

Aubameyang humiliation
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has remained in London while the rest of the Arsenal squad have travelled to Dubai for a mid-season training camp.
Aubameyang has found himself pushed to the sidelines at the Emirates Stadium following the disciplinary breach in December which saw him stripped of the captaincy, left out of Gunners first-team squad and left to train alone.
The Gabon international missed out of the Africa Cup of Nations without playing a single competitive minute after a test found he had ‘cardiac lesions'.
And the inclusion of one player in particular in the training camp squad will come as a hammer blow to Aubameyang.
Melo move hits brakes
Arsenal's move for Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo may have stalled – all thanks to Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel.
With the Gunners keen to bring in Melo this month, Juve are seeking a replacement for the Brazilian.
One player they are said to be keen on is Chelsea's Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who reportedly wants a loan move away from Stamford Bridge to secure himself more game time.
But that move has not worked out for the Italian giants, with Tuchel's response to Juventus' bid simultaneously putting the red light on Arsenal's move for Arthur.
Osimhen eyed
Arsenal could be set to go head-to-head with Newcastle United to land Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, according to reports.
The Gunners have been left desperately seeking alternatives to Dusan Vlahovic after their move for the Fiorentina forward fell through.
Vlahovic appears set to join Juventus, and with the club hoping to sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before the end of the month and Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah set to leave when their contracts expire at the end of the season, Arteta knows his squad are in need of a new forward.
And reports have now linked Arteta's side with a huge move for Osimhen.
