Arsenal news: Bruno Fernandes and Mikel Arteta agree on £34m transfer amid Nicolas Pepe decision

Your Arsenal morning digest on Saturday, July 2.

Fernandes and Arteta agree on Arsenal transfer

Bruno Fernandes has echoed Mikel Arteta's thoughts on Fabio Vieira following the midfielder's move to Arsenal from Porto. The Gunners welcomed the 22-year-old to the Emirates Stadium this summer, making the Portugal international Edu's third signing of the summer.

Arteta was pleased to welcome Vieira to London Colney, with the Gunners enjoying a fruitful summer spending spree. The Spaniard hailed the abilities of the youngster and, speaking to the club’s official website earlier this month, he said: "I am very excited that we have identified and signed such a special talent.

"Fabio is a very creative player that will bring high quality and versatility to our attacking play. We welcome Fabio and his family to our club and are looking forward to starting work with him ahead of the new season."

Vieira's move to the Premier League has won many plaudits - one of whom is Manchester United talisman Fernandes. Singing from a similar hymn sheet to Arteta, he said: "I welcome all Portuguese players who go abroad, I hope he can shine to the fullest, except against me. Fábio has a lot of quality and has been demonstrating that, whether in the FC Porto is in the Under-21s, he has had good numbers and good performances.

"I hope he succeeds like all the Portuguese out there. We have to start valuing what is ours and I hope that Fábio manages to be as good as possible, despite of wanting to stay ahead."

Nicolas Pepe decision made

Nicolas Pepe faces an increasingly uncertain future at Arsenal, with the Gunners reportedly set to permit the winger's departure this summer. The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with an exit from the Emirates Stadium recently after having fallen out of favour under Arteta.

With all parties seemingly in agreement regarding his future, the Gunners are now openly seeking potential suitors for Pepe, according to the Press Association. Arsenal's decision to reportedly offload Pepe falls in line with Edu's pursuit of Leeds United talisman Raphinha.

Arsenal told to sign Tielemans

Mikel Arteta has been encouraged to complete the transfer of Youri Tielemans from Leicester City after Arsenal sign Gabriel Jesus. The 25-year-old midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent times, though a move has never materialised.

Following the arrival of Fabio Vieira from Porto, the north Londoners have 'cooled' their interest in Tielemans, according to Sky Sports. The report claims that it's become increasingly likely that he'll now pen a one-year contract extension with Leicester.

Arsenal have long been admirers of Tielemans but, with the Gunners having already welcomed Vieira to London Colney in a £34m deal, interest has waned. Whether or not Edu navigates another move for the Belgian is yet to be seen, though it's believed that the north Londoners will only sign one central midfielder in this window, and their preference was the Portuguese technician.
