Arsenal news: Arteta accused of ‘humiliation’ as Gunners get triple injury boost

Arsenal are hoping to continue their positive start to the season when they host Leicester in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Gunners kicked off their campaign with a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace and will be confident of picking up another victory at the Emirates Stadium this weekend. Things are looking rosy for Mikel Arteta, who enjoyed a decent pre-season and has seen his squad bolstered by five new arrivals.

The situation is certainly much better than it was midway through last season, when the Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang saga was in full swing. Discussion of that issue has reared its head again as Arsenal train ahead of the Foxes game.

Here, Mirror Football brings you the latest Arsenal headlines.

Arteta ‘humiliated’ Aubameyang

Piers Morgan believes that Mikel Arteta is guilty of humiliating Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang through the way he dealt with the former Arsenal captain last season.

Aubameyang was stripped of the captaincy in December before being frozen out of the squad and allowed to leave Barcelona on a free transfer. The saga has come back into the spotlight due to behind-the-scenes footage of the events being shown to the public in Prime Video series Arsenal: All or Nothing.

Morgan has always been critical of the way Arteta dealt with the situation and has got involved in some Twitter spats over the subject. "He's a poor time-keeper, big deal. [Thomas] Tuchel managed him superbly, Arteta chose to humiliate him & give him away - costing us Top4,” he wrote to one fan.

Triple injury boost

Arsenal have been boosted by Takehiro Tomiyasu, Emile Smith Rowe and Fabio Vieira's returns to training this week. The trio missed the Premier League opener against Crystal Palace last Friday but could be involved this weekend against the Foxes.

Arteta said: “Three out of four of those players [Tomiyasu, Smith Rowe, Kieran Tierney, Vieira] are going to be training this afternoon and if everything goes well, they will be available for selection and in the squad.”

Tomiyasu had calf issues last season and has been struggling with a quad injury. Meanwhile, Smith Rowe had a groin problem and new signing Vieira has been out with a foot injury.

Bellerin exit stalling

Arsenal may have to change their approach if they are to offload Hector Bellerin this summer.

Bellerin is desperate to join Real Betis on a permanent basis before the transfer window closes on September 1. The 27-year-old spent last season on loan in Seville but the Spanish club cannot pay Arsenal’s asking price.

His agent was in London earlier this week to try and negotiate the termination of Bellerin’s contract, but there has been no movement yet. Bellerin wants to find a compromise to push through the move and, with the clock ticking, Arsenal may have to agree to one.
