Arsenal technical director Edu has unlocked the Gunners a healthy £5.9million windfall this summer following the sale of Lucas Torreira. The 26-year-old, who has penned a three-year deal with Galatasaray, has bid farewell to the north Londoners on Twitter announcing his exit.
"I am very happy and excited to be a new Galatasaray player," the midfielder's statement reads. "I am convinced that this is the beginning of a long and successful history together. Thank you for trusting me and I promise to leave everything for these colours. Let's go Gala!"
Torreira was heavily linked with an exit from the Emirates Stadium after falling out of favour under Mikel Arteta. He featured 89 times for the north London side after arriving from Sampdoria four years ago in a deal worth around £25million.

Despite a spritely start to life at Arsenal under Unai Emery, the Uruguay international faced an increasingly uncertain future following the appointment of Arteta. Torreira was quickly ushered out of the back door, joining Atletico Madrid on loan in October 2020.
He then penned another loan deal at Fiorentina the following summer. But now, Torreira seems to have finally found his new home in Turkey, with Edu unlocking a windfall that funds Arteta's sixth - and maybe seventh - transfer of the summer.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with moves for Youri Tielemans and Yeremy Pino of late. football.london understand that the Gunners are interested in signing the Belgium international despite having already signed a midfielder this summer - Fabio Vieira.
And, initially, it looked as if the former Porto star's move to north London would deter Tielemans from penning a deal in north London. But, with Arsenal having held a long interest in the Belgian and the Foxes leaving the door open to exits, he could well be on the move.
Meanwhile, the north Londoners have locked horns with Liverpool for the signing of Pino after the 19-year-old snubbed a move to Barcelona. AS claim that Villarreal have recently become aware of the interest from Arsenal and Liverpool.
The report adds that a big offer would lead to a 'difficult decision' for the Spanish side who have one of Europe's most exciting talents in their armoury. AS outline that Pino has a £67million release clause, however it's said that both Arsenal and Liverpool have tabled offers worth €40million (£33.7m).
While the windfall secured from Torreira's sale won't fund the entirety of Arteta's wish list, it's a healthy boost.
