Arsenal fans have demanded America owner, Stan Kroenke, put his hands in his pockets this summer after Manchester City were confirmed as Premier League champions.
The Gunners were beaten 1-0 by Nottingham Forest on Saturday, which confirmed Man City as title winners with two matches left to play. Arsenal are four points behind having played a game more, but only have one game remaining and can no longer catch Pep Guardiola’s side.
Former Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi scored the goal that confirmed Arsenal’s position as Premier League runners-up. Man City, meanwhile, have won their third consecutive league title and fifth in the last six years.
Arsenal were at the top of the Premier League table at the start of April. However, draws with Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton were followed by a defeat to Man City last month.
Since the start of May results have not got much better. There were wins over Chelsea and Newcastle, but the 3-0 loss to Brighton last week all-but confirmed Man City as title winners.
Now that it’s been confirmed that Arsenal will have to settle for a second-place finish, some fans of the club have sent messages to the club’s owners. Kroenke has helped sanction more than £300m on transfers since the summer of 2021, spending big money on key signings such as Aaron Ramsdale, Benjamin White, Martin Odegaard, Thomas Partey, Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira.
However, that hasn’t stopped Arsenal fans from sending a message to the club’s owners demanding that big money be spent year again this summer. One fan wrote on Twitter : “Kroenke, pay up some proper cash in the summer or sell to someone who can mate. Going cheap in January costs us two seasons in a row.”
While another said: “Congrats City. Arsenal, Kroenke, Edu & Teta - this summer & next season is make or break. He gets one more season.”
Another fan added: “Levels to this. Kroenke, Edu, Arteta take notes. Onto (the) summer transfer window.”
Yet another Arsenal fan wrote: “If we do not see investment in the summer this is on Kroenke and Edu. If we do and we don’t achieve by competing in the league again then we have to have questions about the manager.”
While another said: “If Arsenal lose that means Kroenke has to spend more money this summer, right?”
Finally, another Arsenal fan wrote: “We need to spend 200 (million) minimum now, hope Kroenke’s been watching and hope Edu learns how to negotiate.”
Arsenal’s final game of the season is at home to Wolves next weekend. While Champions League football has long been secured for the Gunners, the club will be keen to strengthen again this summer to take the final step and win a major trophy in 2023/24.
