Arsenal fans against Edu's £31.5m Alexander Isak alternative but it makes sense for Mikel Arteta

Arsenal fans may have to brace for the shock transfer of Alvaro Morata, but the signing of the Spaniard should not dishearten the Gooners.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein , Barcelona and Juventus have made official approaches to sign Pierre-Emerick Auameyang on loan until the summer, with Arsenal still pondering on whether to accept the deal.

If Aubameyang does join Juventus, then Morata’s place at the club would be in doubt due to the incomings of the Gabonese international and Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina.

The Gunners are in desperate need of a striker and signing Alvaro Morata on a six-month loan deal certainly wouldn’t be a bad option.

Arsenal have been looking for a striker in the January transfer window to potentially replace Aubameyang, but have failed in their attempts so far with the deadline fast approaching.

The pressure on Alexandre Lacazette to stay fit is currently huge due to the shortages in attack, and if Arsenal do not manage to sign a new striker this month, then hopes of a Champions League place ahead of next season will certainly be diminished.

Alexander Isak, Jonathan David and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are reportedly Arsenal’s main striker targets, but a deal for one of these three is more likely to be completed in the summer transfer window, due to their club’s unwillingness to sell them in January.

Edu could pay Isak’s £75m release clause but despite being equipped with bags of potential and will without a doubt be one of the best strikers in football over upcoming years, he is still yet to justify such a high price tag in the January transfer window.

He currently plays for Real Sociedad and has scored 40 goals in 110 appearances for the La Liga side.

By the end of the season, Edu will certainly have a more clear idea if Isak is ready to make the step to the Premier League, as the 22-year-old currently has the pressure to get his team into the Champions League places next season.

In the meantime, Morata would be an excellent stop-gap signing whilst Isak auditions to prove that he is ready to lead the Arsenal attack immediately.

The Spaniard is highly experienced having already won the Champions League on two occasions and has already played in the Premier League with Chelsea, so there will not be a settling-in period for his short-term deal.

Edu certainly shouldn’t sign Morata with any long-term plans and he should only be looked at as a short term option, but despite the doubts Arsenal fans have about him, he is better than Eddie Nketiah as a backup option, and will certainly chip in with a few goals from now to the end of the season.
