Arsenal dealt further Gabriel Jesus blow after private talks with Brazil

Arsenal have initiated talks with Brazil in a bid to bring Gabriel Jesus back to the club after he was ruled out of the World Cup with a knee injury - but the Gunners striker is poised to remain in Qatar.

Reports in Brazil have suggested that Jesus could be out of action for up to three months and may require surgery after sustaining a knee injury in Brazil's shock 1-0 defeat against Cameroon on Friday night.

Arsenal are waiting to discover the extent of the issue, but the Brazilian FA confirmed on Saturday that the issue would curtail Jesus' tournament; and the forward's absence is a major blow for Brazil boss Tite, who is still sweating on the fitness of Neymar.
