Arne Slot admitted to feeling “pressure” as Liverpool’s hopes of a top-five finish in the Premier League were dented by a 2-1 defeat at Brighton, before taking aim at “certain pundits” in defence of the Reds’ transfer spending.

Danny Welbeck’s clinical double at the Amex Stadium on Saturday sent Liverpool into the upcoming international break reeling from a three-match winless run in the league, casting fresh doubt on their chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
