A 51-year-old man, identified as Tommie Lee Williams, was apprehended by authorities in Gwinnett County, Georgia, following an attempted armed robbery at a Chick-fil-A restaurant in the early hours of the morning.
According to the Gwinnett County Police Department, Williams, allegedly armed and wearing a mask, forcibly entered the Chick-fil-A located on Stone Mountain Highway. Once inside, he confronted a delivery driver who was present in the kitchen area, brandishing a handgun and demanding access to the safe.
Upon the arrival of law enforcement officers, the victim, a delivery driver for the establishment, recounted the harrowing ordeal. The victim explained that Williams had smashed through a drive-thru window using a rock to gain entry and then threatened him with the firearm, insisting on the safe's combination.
A physical altercation ensued between the victim and the armed assailant, captured on surveillance footage, during which the Chick-fil-A employee managed to unmask Williams. This critical piece of evidence aided the police in confirming the suspect's identity.
In a bid to defend himself, the Chick-fil-A worker valiantly fought off the armed intruder, leading Williams to flee the scene through a rear exit. Subsequent investigations by detectives from the Gwinnett County Police Department identified a vehicle believed to be linked to the failed robbery attempt, ultimately resulting in Williams' arrest.
Williams now faces a litany of charges, including armed robbery, aggravated assault, second-degree burglary, kidnapping, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and second-degree criminal property damage.
