Armed police lock down Edinburgh street as resident told to ‘go back inside’

Armed police have locked down a residential street in Edinburgh amid reports of an ‘ongoing incident’.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Murrayburn Place in the Wester Hailes area of the capital at midday on Monday.

Pictures from the area show a cordon in place around a block of flats as an officer with a gun stood guard.

Uniformed police officers were also in attendance.

One resident told the Daily Record that he was told to go back inside. He said: “I was going out to get a bit of lunch and hadn’t even looked out the window.

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment (@Ross_Jamieson)

“When I got outside, there was an officer in tactical gear and holding a machine gun. He said I should go back inside. When I asked him what was going on, he said he couldn't tell me.”

Police Scotland have confirmed that the incident has now concluded with enquiries ongoing.

A spokesperson said: "Around midday on Monday, 29 May 2023, police received a report of a male having been injured during a disturbance in Murrayburn Place, Wester Hailes, Edinburgh.

“Officers attended and there was no-one found with any injuries. A search of the area followed however no-one has been traced in connection with an earlier disturbance.

“The incident has been stood down and enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances.”
