Arjun Erigaisi takes Iran's Amin in stride to take sole lead in Chennai Grandmasters chess meet

NAGPUR: Arjun Erigaisi did what he does best — go for the kill and get the desired result. In the fourth round of the Chennai Grandmasters Chess tournament, India's new world No. 2 launched an aggressive kingside attack to take Iran's Amin Tabatabaei in stride and jump to sole lead with 3.5 points on Friday.

At the halfway mark of the Masters section, Arjun was the only player to register a win as all the other three boards ended in a draw. On the top board, Arjun not only defended well with his black pieces, but the 21-year-old also gave yet another example of his swashbuckling style of play to garner a full point and push his live rating to 2809.3 — just 21.7 rating points away from world No. 1 Magnus Carlsen.
