An ongoing murder trial in Arizona involving rancher George Alan Kelly has sparked controversy over allegations of cartel influence in the investigation. The defense team for Kelly has raised concerns about the conduct of Santa Cruz County Sheriff David Hathaway, who is expected to testify in the case.

According to reports, Sheriff Hathaway traveled to Mexico to interview the prosecution's main witness, a move that has been criticized by Kelly's defense team. The defense consultant, Dr. Ron Martinelli, has called the sheriff's actions prejudicial and biased towards Kelly.
