Argos issues £1.20 trick to 'stay warm for hours without turning on the heating'

Experts have been telling people that in order to keep warm and bills low, it is best to heat the person and not the home.

The advice comes as people have been urged to apply for financial help in time for the deadline such as the Warm Home Discount Scheme.

It comes as Money Saving Expert (MSE) reminded Scottish households on certain benefits that they can get £150 off their energy bills this winter. But unlike in England and Wales, many in Scotland still need to apply.

Whether you can apply or not however, Argos have issued some money-saving tips to lower energy bills regardless of your budget.

Writing on their website they state that one of the cheapest, and most cost effective, options you can try is using a hot water bottle.

The simple recommendation can cost as little as £1.20, or if you want to buy one for your child, it gets even cheaper coming in at £1 - down from £3.

Explaining why they're the best option, the retailer writes: "Stay cosy and warm with a hot water bottle that's both economical and energy saving. It stays warm for a long time and can be used as an alternative to central heating."

Currently the cheapest hot water bottle on sale on the Argos website is the brand's own 'Home Unicorn Microwaveable Hottie' retailing for £1, down from £3.

However if you want one for adults, or you're wanting to opt away from an animal theme, you can go for their own brand 'Home Faux Fur Wine Hot Water Bottle' which is half price, down from £3.60.

Getting a total of 4.7 stars out of five, people hail the cheap 'must have' item.

Leaving a review for the item one said: "As costs continue to rise I think we’re all looking for ways to help save money on our energy bills and I had forgotten just how good hot water bottles are and this one is no exception.

"It has also come in handy recently when I wasn’t feeling very well with a tummy bug. The hot water bottle stayed warm enough for hours for me to use without having to turn the heating up. The cover is lovely and soft."

Another added: "Just what’s needed for cold weather."

"Great hot water bottle keeps hot for a long time" wrote a third.
