Multiple Black superhero IPs are losing film and show opportunities in the MCU and DCU. Wonder Man season two, the Mahershala Ali Blade film, and the James Rhodes Armor Wars film are not happening. An Amanda Waller show is now indefinitely on hold. A Cyborg film will seemingly never happen. T’Challa won’t be recast anytime soon. The problem is even worse in publishing: mainstream comics are failing Black superheroes, and fans are noticing.

Over the past few years, twelve Black-led titles from Marvel and DC have been canceled, leaving a troubling vacuum in representation. DC Comics has not had an ongoing series, not counting limited series or one-shots, featuring a Black superhero since the cancellation of I Am Batman in 2023.
