Apple is looking to expand its offerings on Apple TV+ by licensing more movies from big studios. According to Bloomberg, the tech giant has been in discussions with major movie studios to secure licensing agreements for additional films. This move comes after Apple's successful licensing of numerous movies in the spring, including popular titles like 'Titanic,' 'Argo,' and 'Mean Girls.'
During the talks, Apple has been seeking both domestic and international rights from the movie studios. The company's efforts to diversify its content offerings are seen as a way to compete with other streaming platforms like Netflix, HBO Max, and Disney+.
While Apple TV+ has primarily focused on original content, the addition of licensed movies could attract a wider audience to the platform. Many streaming services have found success by offering a mix of original and licensed content to their subscribers.
In addition to movies, Apple TV+ has also ventured into live sports streaming. The platform currently offers 'Friday Night Baseball' through a partnership with Major League Baseball and 'MLS Season Pass' in collaboration with Major League Soccer, although the latter requires an additional subscription.
Apple TV+ membership is priced at $9.99 per month, a $3 increase from the previous price set in October. Despite the price hike, Apple continues to invest in expanding its content library to provide a diverse range of entertainment options for its subscribers.
